The United Sons and Daughters of Charity was established in 1873 as a local self-help benevolent organization to assist African-Americans during Civil War Reconstruction. The original lodge hall was built in 1873 and was one of the first public buildings constructed for African-Americans in Bolivar.
The Lodge Hall is the oldest African-American community building in Bolivar, Tennessee. Over the subsequent decades, the building served as a school, church, meeting hall and community facility for other social events. When the original facility burned in the 1920's, the present building was erected.
